The rise in gasoline prices and the ongoing tensions in the Middle East are weighing on Toyota’s global sales and production, which overall shows a double negative sign. Also impacting are the difficulties in demand in the Chinese market: overall, the Japanese giant reports a year-on-year decline in both global sales, down 4.8% to just over 856,000 units, and global production, down 2.1% to 828,630 vehicles.

Toyota, double negative sign in July
Looking at foreign markets, overseas sales stand at 706,000 cars, down 7.6% compared to the same period last year. The biggest hit comes from China, where the drop is 24.3% (114,750 units). Toyota attributes the weakness mainly to the gasoline vehicle segment, including hybrid versions. In North America, on the other hand, the picture remains more stable, with sales growing by 0.4% to 255,400 cars, supported by demand for hybrid models. While the Middle East worsens significantly, with a 44.5% drop to just over 27,600 vehicles. Meanwhile, exports from Japan to the area grow by 3%, perhaps signaling a first easing of the effects of tensions on transportation.
Sales and production weak
On the production front, Toyota shows signs of slowdown even outside Japan. Foreign production falls by 9.8% to 500,470 vehicles, marking the third consecutive month of decline, with North America and Europe slowed by fewer working days. In China, production collapses by 32.7% (91,070 cars), while domestic production rises by 12.4% (328,160 units), supported by strong demand and the launch of new models. In contrast, in the Japanese domestic market Toyota accelerates: sales grow by 11% to 151,000 units, driven by the good start of new models such as the RAV4 SUV, the electric bZ4X, and the Land Cruiser FJ.
