Jorge Martin won the Austrian GP Sprint and reclaimed the World Championship leadership with a three-point lead over Marc Marquez. Martin was the protagonist of a tough duel precisely with Marquez that led him to make a mistake during the first lap, but after falling to seventh position he climbed back to second place performing a series of spectacular overtakes in turn 1. Then, the Aprilia champion ‘discarded’ the gift from Pedro Acosta, who crashed three laps from the end after having dominated the race until then.

Marquez’s second place leaves just three points difference between the two Spaniards in the standings; Marco Bezzecchi instead slips to -38, third at the finish line, confirming how this trio is now the reference in this phase of the season. Also noteworthy is Ai Ogura’s catch-up with Pedro Acosta in the standings: the Japanese rider from the Trackhouse team – who was coming back from two rounds missed due to injury – finished this Sprint in fourth position and now has 209 points, fifth tied on points with the ‘Shark’. Meanwhile, Fabio Di Giannantonio remains stuck at 223, fourth in the World Championship but today only tenth at the finish after a lackluster performance.
