Renewing the range does not only mean updating existing models. It also means launching new ones. Renault knows this well, making a double promise to its customers: on one hand, it assures that it will evaluate new generation versions of the R5 and Clio, on the other, it will add some completely new cars to the existing line-up. Words from Fabrice Cambolive, the CEO of the French giant.

Renault aims to refresh the range
The CEO of the Diamond did not rule out the introduction of further retro-inspired models, but at the same time insisted that the company will not fill its range only with this type of cars. “Any car of this type must fit into the modern era. You can focus on retro if you have a purpose, otherwise you fail“, his words reported by Autocar. Cambolive then specified that a third of the range should be made up of iconic cars, think of R5, R4 and Twingo. Another third from historic models, not icons but still present in people’s minds, such as Clio and Scenic. The remaining third from completely new models.
Retro models and new cars
“Our designers must be able to propose something completely new. Living only in the past is destined to fail. Our first goal now is to introduce some new models to the market, because we cannot rely on the past with R5 and Clio”, he added. At the moment the group CEO has not provided precise details on what these new models could be, although stating he does not see room for further cars in the current range. However, he noted a trend to offer global cars that are then heavily adapted to the local market.
