Ferrari second at Imola
The 2026 WEC World Championship opened with the victory of Toyota which won the 6 Hours of Imola with the debuting TR010 Hybrid #8 of the crew formed by Brendon Hartley, Ryo Hirakawa and Sebastien Buemi. The Ferrari #51 started from pole position, but Toyota set a more aggressive strategy aimed at taking the lead of the race, a move that was further favored by Nick Cassidy’s Peugeot going off track, forcing a neutralization that allowed Toyota to match Ferrari’s strategy while maintaining the lead of the race.

“The race was very complicated also due to the unknown weather, which forced us to make complex choices until the end, which the team did their best to manage – said Alessandro Pier Guidi – we started well, then we were a bit unlucky with a Virtual Safety Car which, in fact, during the pit stops, made us lose the first position. However, we continued to do our best and in the end we managed to secure a second place for which we must be very satisfied.”

Car #50, on the other hand, had to recover after the drive-through caused by Miguel Molina not observing a yellow flag during the first stint: “Congratulations to our teammates who achieved an excellent second place in a race where, with our 499P number 50, we would hardly have been able to achieve a better placement”, said Antonio Fuoco, who in the end dueled with the BMWs, finishing in sixth position.
