Mercedes-Benz has started production of three new flagship models of the brand at the Sindelfingen plant. We are talking about the S-Class, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, and the EQS. An initiative that combines prestige and innovation within a time span of only three months, demonstrating the site’s ability to efficiently manage very different products. Thanks to the flexibility of the entire line, the three vehicles are produced on the same production line, thus optimizing time, resources, and planning.

The industrial strategy adopted in Sindelfingen allows production volumes to be adapted to market demands, regardless of the powertrain: from vehicles with hybrid technology to 100% electric versions. In other words, the same production setup allows for quickly adjusting the quantity destined for the market, reducing friction between supply and demand. This model highlights the commitment of the Star brand to Germany and strengthens the approach to a , supported by continuous investments in technologies to improve efficiency.

Three models on the same line in Sindelfingen
What makes all this possible is also the digital plant already in place in Sindelfingen: opened in 2020, the plant replaced the traditional assembly line with a network of about 400 automated guided vehicles. Furthermore, the use of artificial intelligence and the integration of assembly stations into the Mercedes-Benz digital ecosystem allow real-time access to data through the MO360 platform. For the electric part, the production of the EQS powertrains takes place at the Unterturkheim plant, about 20 km away, following the principle “local for local“. Finally, in line with the Ambition 2039 goal, Sindelfingen is designed to be zero impact, with significantly reduced consumption thanks to photovoltaics and a storage system based on batteries recycled from vehicles.
