Remarkable step forward
The start of the season for Williams had generated quite a few concerns about the competitiveness level of the FW48, which scored points only at the Chinese GP with Carlos Sainz. The Spanish driver himself hit the target again at the last Miami GP, once again finishing 9th, with the Grove team making a step forward: for the first time in this championship, in fact, both cars finished in the top ten, with Alex Albon finishing just behind his teammate.

Goals still to be achieved
A double top-10 that brings Williams (a team that recently hired two engineers from Mercedes) to 5 points in the Constructors’ Championship, surpassing Audi, which had to deal with a weekend to forget: “Another very solid Sunday – said Sainz – I had a great start and managed to position myself fighting for points. From there on, the pace was very good, the race was well managed and we comfortably found ourselves mid-pack. We made progress during the initial breakaway and the team worked hard to bring this upgrade to the car. It shows how much we can achieve when we focus, but we are still far from where we want to be. Our goal is to keep working well and try to score points regularly.”

Also very satisfied is Albon, who still wants to keep his focus high ahead of the next commitments: “It has been a difficult start to the season, so it’s great to bring home two points, an important result for the team. We had a good start and I gained some positions in the first three laps, and the upgrades also seem to work well, allowing us to fight in the midfield. There is still room for improvement in terms of performance and we experimented with different setups throughout the weekend; there is still some work to fully understand the new package, but we will keep pushing at our best. Miami is a circuit that suits us, so now we have to focus on Montreal and get the most out of another Sprint weekend.”
