Mugello, Marquez limits the damage
Mugello was an important stage for Marc Marquez, back on track after the recent physical stop and eager to regain rhythm and good feelings while riding. Already in the Sprint, the Spaniard had shown encouraging signs: returning from the double shoulder and foot surgery, yesterday he finished in the top 5. And today, over double the distance and on one of the most physically demanding tracks, the Ducati rider showed the champion’s tenacity with a seventh place that gives him solid points in the standings.

As long as he could, Marquez battled for the top 5. The very front runners made a race apart, and so the world champion fought for a long time with Pedro Acosta. In the corners and direction changes, however, he visibly struggled with his shoulder, and eight laps from the end he lost a lot of pace: P7 still represents the maximum for the Cabroncito, who really couldn’t give more.
Marquez’s words
“I had fun, I fought hard! I tried to give 100%, then I started to ‘die’. Honestly, I had a bike superior to Acosta’s, and only because of that could I fight with him,” this is Marquez’s comment to Sky Sport MotoGP. “Pedro was riding a bit better, but every lap I managed to stay ahead of him on the straight. Then, when 8 laps were left, I started to drop a lot, but I will restart from here.”

“In the second part of the race I wasn’t riding well, and also because of this the tire wore out more: the muscle gets tired and says enough, so the shoulder starts to work strangely and gives me pain, but it’s all normal, it was to be expected in a long race. Anyway, the starting point here at Mugello is not bad, because it’s a tough track,” he added.
