The illusion of Sachsenring
The German Grand Prix, the last one held before the summer break, ended with both official Yamaha riders in the points zone. The biggest boost and satisfaction for the Japanese manufacturer came particularly from the 7th place of Fabio Quartararo, but upon returning to the track at Silverstone, the team experienced a decidedly negative weekend, also due to what happened after the race.

The post-race penalty
Quartararo, in fact, had finished in 12th place. A not very brilliant result, but still enough to earn 4 points: “I expected a difficult race – he commented after the GP – I couldn’t push as much as I wanted. Tire wear was high again, but in a different way compared to yesterday (Sprint race, ed). It wasn’t sudden and surprising, today it was gradual and progressive. But still it didn’t go well for us“. A rather unsatisfactory statement, but for the Frenchman the worst came following an official decision by Race Direction, which penalized him by 16 seconds. The reason was linked to an irregularity in the tire pressure data transmission system, with the 2021 world champion demoted to 16th and last place in the standings, thus outside the points zone.

Immediate stop
The British GP, on the other hand, lasted very little for teammate Alex Rins. The latter, in fact, came into contact with fellow countryman Joan Mir at turn 7 during the first lap, with the incident immediately ending both their races, fortunately without consequences: “It’s a shame to end the weekend like this, with a crash. I couldn’t avoid Joan and I immediately went down. We have to recover and come back stronger for the next race in Aragon in three weeks. We will keep fighting!”
