The unstoppable rise in fuel prices is setting new records at gas stations, with diesel today in some cases approaching 2.7 euros per liter. The situation is captured by Codacons, which based on official data released by the stations has created a regional map of the fuel price surge. According to the association, the price spike is amplifying daily costs for families and drivers, just as the approach of the summer season tends to increase consumption and travel.

Expensive gasoline and diesel
Looking at self-service, the highest prices in Italy are found in Milan, where a station sells gasoline at 2.635 euros/liter and diesel at 2.695 euros/liter. In the same Lombardy capital, another station offers diesel at 2.442 euros/liter. In second place in the self-service ranking is Pantelleria, with diesel at 2.599 euros/liter and gasoline at 2.499 euros/liter. On the podium are then Ponza and Isola del Giglio: here diesel costs 2.399 euros/liter. Following are Scafati (Salerno) at 2.398 euros/liter, Stresa (Verbania) at 2.389 euros/liter, Procida (Naples) at 2.380 euros/liter, and Simeri Crichi (Catanzaro) at 2.349 euros/liter.
New price surge
Even heavier situation at full service, where Codacons analyzes prices stretch by stretch and notes increases that bring diesel to nearly 2.7 euros per liter. On the A21 Turin-Piacenza a liter of diesel reaches 2.699 euros/liter, while on the A4 Venice-Trieste it is 2.682 euros/liter and on the A22 Brenner-Modena diesel costs 2.609 euros/liter. For gasoline, the highest values emerge on the A21 (2.549 euros/liter), on the A28 (2.489 euros/liter) and on stretches of A1, A12 and A14 with 2.449 euros/liter. Beyond the extreme cases, warns the association, the price increases at the pump will have heavy effects on Italians’ summer holidays. And for this it calls for an urgent intervention: a new cut of excise duties to be applied until the end of August.
