Commercial vehicle incentives: the government is considering it

The government is reportedly working on a targeted incentive package for commercial vehicles and some specific categories, with the aim of facilitating the renewal of the vehicle fleet and, at the same time, supporting the market recovery. This was stated by the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, speaking at the automotive sector conference organized by Federauto, the association representing about 1,100 dealerships including cars and various types of vehicles. According to Urso, the central issue is to avoid demand being blocked by a mismatch between what the market requires and the real purchasing power of families.

Commercial vehicle incentives: government at work

In the framework described by the minister, last year registrations reportedly showed a decline for cars and commercial vehicles, with negative effects on the Italian production chain. However, the minister emphasizes that the growth in used car sales is a sign of demand still present. The market is asking for products, in short, but supply and purchasing conditions fail to meet consumers’ economic capacity. Urso also links the discussion on sector support to the setting of industrial and environmental policies, recalling how the government has challenged, at the European level, some approaches related to the Green Deal.

It’s not just electric

At the institutional level, the Minister of Economy Giorgetti also highlights that in the first quarter of 2026 positive signs are recorded in production and registrations, although there is a need to monitor the impact of the shock related to the Iranian conflict. The Minister of Environment Pichetto Fratin also reiterates the orientation to respect climate goals without damaging entire industrial sectors, clarifying that “it’s not just electric.” On the market front, Federauto proposes a new pact between manufacturers and dealers to restore balance among the different players, also asking to review the “bonus policy” for cars, considered potentially distorting trends and favorable to a single technology, for example BEV.
