BMW must recall over 330.000 vehicles worldwide for a potential fire risk. This was announced by the German regulatory authority KBA, which ordered a second recall in less than a month. According to the organization, approximately 337.000 vehicles belonging to five different models are “potentially affected” by a problem with the dashboard wiring. Among the possible consequences, there is talk of overheating or short circuits.

New major BMW recall
Of the many vehicles involved, approximately 29.000 are in Germany. This measure follows a previous recall related to starter motors. A few weeks ago, we recall, BMW of North America launched a separate recall campaign in the USA involving just over 87.000 vehicles. The NHTSA explained that the starter motor defect is due to internal wear, which can cause overheating of the component and, in extreme cases, a start of a fire.

Potential fire risk
Affected models include the 2 Series Coupé, 3, 4, 5, the X3 and X4 SUVs and the Z4 roadster. The Toyota Supra sold in the USA between 2021 and 2023, produced in collaboration with BMW, was also included. To resolve the problem, the German manufacturer’s dealerships will offer the free replacement of the starter motor and specific information will be sent to owners starting next March 24.
