According to a document filed with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, Toyota has requested approval for the construction of a new vehicle assembly line within its existing production complex in the state. The initiative, referred to by Reuters as “Project Orca,” involves a total investment estimated at around 2 billion dollars. It is intended to strengthen the company’s production capacity in the Texas area.

Toyota invests in production in Texas
The construction of the project, according to the documentation, is expected to begin by the end of 2026 in San Antonio, with the goal of starting production in 2030. Specifically, the Japanese company plans to allocate 1.05 billion dollars to buildings and other real estate improvements, while 950 million dollars would be used for the purchase of machinery and a range of equipment, indicating a structural intervention both in infrastructure and operational lines.
2,000 new jobs
The plan outlined in the filing also foresees employment impacts: it mentions 2,000 new jobs between 2028 and 2030. The Japanese company, in a statement reported by Reuters, explained that it is regularly evaluating its production presence to remain competitive and align with customer demand, emphasizing its long-term commitment to investments in North America, focusing on local production, employment, and the supplier chain.
