Stellantis, the Italy Plan is renewed and strengthened

Stellantis for Italy has a very robust investment project. And the two billion planned in the Italy Plan are not only confirmed, but will be strengthened with new models. This is what Emanuele Cappellano, head of the car group for expanded Europe, claims, who during the Investor day on May 21 in Detroit reiterated the contents of the global strategy presented by CEO Antonio Filosa. “All our plants will have new models, new platforms and new developments. Italy is one of the main countries in Europe, with a very strong historical root“, his words quoted by La Stampa today.

Stellantis Plan for Italy

Looking at the first months of 2026, Cappellano indicates a favorable trend. The production for the whole year should be higher than in 2025. At the same time, the executive specifies a political-industrial point: Stellantis had never officially announced the possibility of reaching one million vehicles produced in Italy, so for the group it is not a declared goal. Regarding already confirmed operational choices, he explains that an additional model will arrive in Melfi, a car not present in the Italy Plan. Furthermore, projects for Pomigliano are reiterated, an extremely important investment announced for a new generation of vans in Atessa, and an additional novelty for the Alfa Romeo portfolio is indicated.

Many product novelties

Regarding the details of the new models, the roadmap indicates by 2030 sixty new models and fifty restylings. Pomigliano will have at least two models on the new e-car platform, in addition to the Pandina which will continue until 2030, with a forecasted range under the Fiat and Citroen brands. For Alfa Romeo, a new C-SUV on the STLA Medium platform and a C-segment hatchback on STLA One are planned in Melfi. Cappellano also talks about a special project linked to the 33 Stradale line, while for Giulia and Stelvio he emphasizes continuity as they are today, with updates over time. For Mirafiori, instead, there remains the production continuity of the electric 500 and hybrid 500. According to the manager, there will be no reduction in the installed production capacity at the plant, and the target of 100,000 units for the hybrid 500 will depend on market dynamics.

From Mirafiori to Melfi

Finally, Cappellano links Filosa’s strategy to the growing role of plants as hubs, not just production lines. Mirafiori, in fact, is gradually transforming into a center with different activities: circular economy, battery tech center, and the European headquarters component with the reopening of the central building planned for 2027, in addition to the e-Dct gearboxes for Europe. On the dialogue front with social partners, he emphasizes that there is now a productive dialogue with the government, unions, and stakeholders. A union meeting is scheduled for June before Filosa’s hearing in Parliament on June 17 (possible date June 15). However, union reactions remain critical. For Fiom-Cgil the plan is absolutely lacking and insufficient for Italy and a framework agreement is needed, while Uil gives some credit but asks for verification. Fim-Cisl, while judging positively the commitment not to cut Italian production, considers increased volumes and certain timing necessary.
