In F1, a single car can reserve twists related even to possible absences in Qualifying following disastrous accidents in FP3. In general, any technical problem in any session leads to the exclusion of the driver in question.

Transferring this potential for ‘drama’ to MotoGP is, to say the least, debatable since falling off a bike is definitely easier than wrecking an F1 car. The new ownership, however, is betting heavily on this ‘game of the goose’ scenario, emphasizing that it would allow a significant reduction in costs. Indeed, this halves the material to be set up, managed, and transported.

According to Autosport, Ducati and Aprilia have already given their approval to the single bike precisely because of the cost containment argument. KTM, on the other hand, is not inclined to accept this proposal. According to the Austrian manufacturer, the single bike would slow down the performance development of the new 850cc engine bikes because it would not be possible to carry out quick comparison tests and different setups during free practice and qualifying. The final decision on the matter is expected in conjunction with the resumption of hostilities at Silverstone at the end of the summer break.
