A long wait for improvements
When Aston Martin and Adrian Newey realized they had a car enormously behind the competition, it was decided to turn towards a real ‘B’ car to be introduced during the season, rather than introducing small updates at every event.
This led Aston Martin to fall further behind the competition, especially in these last races before the developments.
For the Netherlands (August 23) Honda plans to bring the power unit with the ADUO ‘vitamins’, while for next week’s Hungarian GP the chassis update will arrive. Will it be enough to keep Alonso in the team?

Alonso expects another tough race
In the Spa-Francorchamps paddock, Fernando Alonso immediately started with a joke: “The best thing on Sunday will be the match”, he joked – or maybe not – referring to the World Cup final where his Spain will face Argentina.
The two-time world champion was then blunt in his analysis: “We have the same car as the Bahrain tests. Others are improving and we are going slowly. Every weekend we seem slower”.

Alonso then seemed rather cautious also on the update front: “We have some experience in trying to predict performance improvements that then do not happen. I expect that we will be able to show the direction. The car’s philosophy is not the right one and we are changing it and making several modifications to reduce weight. We are at the bottom of the standings and thinking of fighting for points would be an incredible leap and so we must stay calm. There will be tracks, like Monza, where there are only 6 corners and we will depend on energy and on this front we have not made great progress.”
