The War in the Middle East inevitably continues to influence the entire planet, and even Formula 1 cannot help but be involved. There have already been two postponements in this first part of the season – Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will do everything to try to recover the lost weekends – but the current state of affairs does not bode well, also considering the presence of Azerbaijan, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi in the final part of the championship.

In the best-case scenario, it will therefore be possible to complete the 24 races initially planned; in the worst case, it could even drop to 19 Grands Prix: so behind the scenes, a real plan B is beginning to take shape with some alternative solutions aimed at not completely distorting the character of the 2026 World Championship.
Repeat at Silverstone?
Those who have publicly made themselves available to bolster the calendar, effectively putting forward their candidacy, is Silverstone. The English circuit could therefore host a double event, just like in 2020 with the back-to-back of the British GP and the 70th Anniversary GP of F1.

According to a circuit spokesperson to Sky News UK, “the circuit has stepped forward because it already intervened during the Covid period and, if this could be supportive, obviously we will be happy to do so“.
“There are numerous practical issues to consider, but the offer is on the table: Formula 1 knows we are here and we can move quickly if requested. Clearly, we do not currently have free windows and this is a point of pride for us, but in a crisis situation everything can be rescheduled“.
