The new rules in action
The Formula 1 season restarts from Miami after a break of over a month due to the cancellations of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia races. The curiosity is all about the changes to the technical regulations decided by FIA, F1, and teams during this forced pause, also to see if they will dampen the controversies expressed by many fans towards this new generation of cars. Presenting the trip to Florida, the Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff also spoke about these ‘course corrections’ who however appears increasingly aligned with the positions dictated by the CEO of the Circus Stefano Domenicali, a staunch defender of the spectacle of this Formula 1.

“As a sport, we have used this period to start a constructive and open dialogue with all stakeholders. The regulation changes represent an evolution rather than a revolution – Wolff clarified – and they were designed to improve the quality of the races we have seen so far, while allowing drivers to push to the limit. These changes respect the DNA of our sport and I am confident they will help make the spectacle even more exciting in the future“.

Regardless of the regulations, however, for the Austrian manager the one and only goal is to maintain the technical supremacy that Mercedes has shown in the first three GPs: “We used this break to objectively analyze the first races, address our weaknesses and continue to improve our level – Wolff added – we started the season well, but that counts for little if you stop. We also know that our competitors will have used this time effectively to improve their packages and gain a deeper understanding of their cars, so we expect the entire grid to be closer in Miami. This is the reality of F1; it is a challenge that we not only welcome but also have to respond to”, Toto concluded.
