He’s in a hurry to get back in the car Carlos Sainz, who evidently can’t take any more of this long spring break imposed on F1 by the cancellations of the races originally scheduled in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in April. The Spaniard, like the entire Williams team, is eager to rectify a difficult start to the season for the historic English team and – while waiting to see if the updates that the team led by James Vowles will bring to Miami will work – wants to make sure he hasn’t lost his edge and physical fitness when it’s time to get serious again.

So, since he was already in England to work on the simulator, Sainz pushed for Williams to organize a TPC test at Silverstone with last year’s car, the FW47, with which the former Ferrari driver had achieved two podiums in the 2025 championship.

Normally, the regulations for testing with ‘old’ cars stipulate that the cars used must be at least two seasons old, but since there has been the regulatory revolution this year that everyone knows about, teams are also allowed to use 2025 single-seaters.
Sainz was thus able to take advantage of a sunny day to regain confidence with an F1 cockpit less than a month after the last race held in Suzuka, which ended for the Spanish driver with a 15th final position more than a minute behind winner Antonelli. The hope is that in Miami, the ‘enhanced’ version of the FW48 will allow him to be at least closer to the points zone.
