Rally of the Canary Islands 2026, SS14: Evans and Solberg protagonists, but Ogier remains leader

Day 3 of the Rally Islas Canarias effectively saw three protagonist drivers during the six stages held today: Elfyn Evans, Oliver Solberg and Sébastien Ogier. The first two managed to secure three stages each, with only one instance of the Swede’s leadership being shared with Ogier, both setting identical times during the afternoon’s SS13. These performances, on one hand, allowed the Welshman to climb to third overall ahead of Pajari and Katsuta, two other Toyota drivers, while Solberg reduced the gap to the reigning world champion, who will have to defend his lead in the Spanish rally during tomorrow’s Super Sunday and the final Power Stage.

SS9-SS11: Evans in top-3

Also this morning, the Toyotas stood out by occupying the top five positions, with Elfyn Evans in the role of group leader. The Welshman finished SS9 in the lead ahead of Solberg and Ogier, delivering a performance that allowed him to climb to the lowest step of the podium in the general classification, also due to the 5th place of Sami Pajari. The Finn even worsened in SS10, contested in the rain; in this case, Adrien Fourmaux occupied fifth place, while the top-4 remained unchanged. In addition, Evans achieved a repeat performance again ahead of Solberg and Ogier, reducing the gap to the latter in the general classification. In the last stage of the morning, the Welshman’s positive streak was interrupted by Solberg, leading ahead of Ogier and Evans himself, who nevertheless managed to extend his lead over Pajari, still 5th behind Katsuta’s other Toyota.

SS12-SS14: three stages each

Evans, Solberg and Ogier: the Toyota trio occupied, in order, the top three positions in almost all the morning’s stages, exactly as happened in the first stage of the afternoon. The Spanish rally thus confirmed the absolute dominance of the Japanese manufacturer also with Pajari and Katsuta, who were in turn in fourth and fifth place in both SS12 and SS13. Precisely in this last round, Solberg and Ogier stopped the clock at 7:43.8, thus achieving the same time and finding themselves in first position ahead of Evans, only two tenths behind the leading duo. An exciting challenge that served as a preview to SS14, the last stage of Day 3, which closed with Solberg’s best time. For the latter, it was his third success of the day (even sharing the lead in one case with Ogier), exactly as in Evans’ case, with Ogier heading into tomorrow’s Super Sunday with a classification advantage of 3.8 seconds over the Swede.
