Toyota and Lancia: together in history
Even before the 2026 Chile Rally, Lancia had won its Constructors’ World Championship title in the WRC2 championship, achieving it in the year of its return to rallying and convincing everyone. Today, in South America, Toyota has mathematically secured the World Constructors’ Championship in the WRC, reaching a milestone that connects the Japanese manufacturer to the Turin-based one, a true legend of this sport. Thanks to the victory of Solberg and the top placements of its other drivers in the standings, Toyota has achieved its tenth world title, equaling a record that, until today, belonged to Lancia.
Super Sunday Report
The third and final day of the Chilean rally, equivalent to Super Sunday, started in the best possible way for Elfyn Evans, who had reduced the gap to Solberg in the overall standings by winning the stage. The Swede, for his part, did not go beyond 4th place, with Fourmaux and Ogier sandwiching the two Toyota drivers. In SS14, however, Solberg redeemed himself by finishing just ahead of the direct rival in this rally, who in turn were closely followed by Ogier and Fourmaux. The real twist of Super Sunday, and of this round, occurred in the penultimate stage: while Solberg managed his lead by finishing third, Evans fell to fifth overall, due to a puncture that inevitably forced him to get out of the car to change the tire. Moreover, Evans ended up behind Pajari in the standings, the very driver who follows him in the world championship. Despite the unconvincing performances by the Finn throughout the rally, Pajari still managed to defend his fourth place even during the Power Stage, won by Solberg. Despite Ogier’s victory on Super Sunday, the Swede claimed his second rally win of the season after Monte Carlo, earning extra points for Sunday’s results (as did Pajari) and reopening the fight for the world title with Evans, who still leads the Drivers’ Championship.

Next appointment
Having left South America, Italian fans will have to wait a few more weeks before the most anticipated event: the WRC will indeed arrive in our country for the Sardinia Rally, scheduled from October 1 to 4. The round is currently the penultimate of the season, with the final event in Saudi Arabia still uncertain due to the conflict in the Middle East.
