Peugeot will keep selling the current thermal 208 also in the future, alongside the new electric e-208 instead of replacing it. This was confirmed by CEO Alain Favey, explaining that the choice to offer both versions responds to the presence of a market segment that, at least for the moment, will not yet be fully oriented towards electric. In other words, Autocar reports, according to Favey there will continue to be demand for internal combustion engine or hybrid solutions, and Peugeot intends to cover it with the current 208.

Peugeot 208 thermal will continue to live
Favey stated that “we will continue to offer the 208 in its current configuration“ as long as it remains in demand from the market, thus including the propulsion options available today. The current 208 is offered with two mild-hybrid petrol engines and, in addition, with the new 100 Turbo three-cylinder 1.2-liter petrol engine, recently introduced in the list of optional configurations. The idea is that these alternatives can remain available even beyond 2030, albeit with the premise that Peugeot does not expect particularly high demand for this type of vehicle.
Alongside the electric and not instead of it
At the same time, the group looks decisively to the electric future. Peugeot indeed foresees a “very, very significant” growth in demand for battery electric vehicles (BEV) and considers the new e-208 as the most important launch for the B segment. Even if the technical setup of the current 208 should remain substantially unchanged, it is likely that the ICE engine version will receive a deep aesthetic update – both interior and exterior – to align with the new e-208 and remain competitive during its seventh anniversary.
