During the German-Algerian Economic Forum in Berlin, Opel announced its intention to start a large-scale production plant in Algeria dedicated to the manufacture of cars. According to the German company, the project is part of a “local-for-local” approach aimed at strengthening the manufacturer’s industrial and commercial presence in the Algerian market in the long term. The announcement was made official these days during the visit of the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Berlin.

At the same time, Opel CEO Florian Huettl and AGM Holding Company CEO Mohamed Fawzi El Kabir signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The document confirms the intention to integrate, in the future industrial presence of the German company in Algeria, also a local line for engine production. According to the description, the initiative aims to position Opel as the first car manufacturer to produce engines locally in Algeria. The goal is to increase internal production capacity.

Overall, the two plans are presented as part of a broader economic and industrial cooperation between Germany and Algeria. The objective is to contribute to the development of the local automotive ecosystem.
