Norris, bitter laughter
Among the interviews given after the Japanese Grand Prix by Lando Norris, the remark made to Viaplay regarding the new Formula 1 regulations and the possible regulatory changes that the FIA has said it is willing to implement from Miami was particularly significant.
Norris did not seem confident about the potential changes and bitterly explained: “There’s no point in saying what I’d like to see changed. It doesn’t matter what we drivers say. As long as only the fans are having fun, that’s what matters, right?”, the McLaren driver emphasized sarcastically.
When the interviewer asked Norris if the drivers should also have fun, Lando cut it short: “Clearly not.”
Positive signs from McLaren
Asked by Sky Sports UK, Norris then expanded his analysis to the race finished in fifth place: “Did I have fun? You shouldn’t start with that question! Oscar and I had a great start and it was nice to be first and third. There are many positive signs from us as a team, which allowed us to achieve such an important result, even knowing that we still have many gaps. Finishing second and fifth is a positive result and can give us a good boost to keep working.”

Norris admitted a step forward in terms of the Mercedes power unit: “Obviously we got something more on both the battery and engine sides. Other things remain problematic, both Oscar and I expressed the same complaints about the car and its difficulties. We know, however, that we are on the right track and this is a great start.”
With fifth place at Suzuka, Lando Norris is fifth in the drivers’ world championship with 25 points, 47 points behind the championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
