Rally mourns the death of Alex Fiorio
Alex Fiorio did not make it. The former Italian rally driver, son of Cesare Fiorio, died today at 61 after battling stomach cancer for months. The news was announced a few minutes ago by the family.

Born in Turin on March 10, 1965, Alex quickly built a prestigious career. In 1987 he won the world title reserved for Production cars with the Lancia Delta HF 4WD Group N, then established himself in the WRC. The World Rally Championship saw him as a protagonist from 1986 to 1995, as well as some sporadic appearances from 2000 to 2002. He was third in the championship in 1988 and world vice-champion in 1989, behind Miki Biasion. With his passing goes one of the protagonists of an unrepeatable generation, that of the Lancia Delta and the golden age of Italian rally.
In his career he collected 10 podiums, but without achieving the victory he often came close to in the World Championship. He continued to race in the following years, winning three consecutive Cyprus Rallies in the European Championship and a category win at the Finland Rally in 2002.

Fiorio leaves behind his father Cesare and mother Francesca, his brother Cristiano with his children Cesare Jr. and Milla, his sister Giorgia, his wife Oxana and daughters Mariapaola and Francesca. As emphasized by the family, “they were all constantly close to him, never failing to show their affection, assisting him until the end during this period of suffering“.
