Sprint Mugello, Martin only yields to Fernandez
Jorge Martin once again confirmed his competitiveness in short races, playing a leading role in the Mugello Sprint. Starting very well, unlike his teammate Marco Bezzecchi, the Aprilia rider was able to rely on the right choice of the medium rear tire, with which he snatched second place behind Raul Fernandez.
From start to finish in second position, Martin tried to put pressure on his compatriot, who was very skilled both in strategy (he was the only one along with him to bet on the medium) and in the execution of the race, managed without making mistakes. The runner-up position represents an important result both in terms of points (in the World Championship standings he is 12 points behind Marco Bezzecchi) and in terms of feelings looking ahead to tomorrow.
Martin’s words
“I had doubts about the medium,” this was his comment to Sky Sport MotoGP. “I was more for the soft, but with this heat it was too soft. When I saw Raul going with the medium I said to myself ‘Ok, I’ll go with him’, I knew he was one of the riders to beat. And we went really fast.”
“When you put your helmet down you give everything, at the end I tried to get a bit closer to Raul but it wasn’t enough, so I preferred to save myself a bit for tomorrow, which will be a very long race. I hope to make a good start, like today. If I manage to stay ahead, I can have a fast and consistent pace,” he added.
