Marquez’s Flashes
Just 19 days after the double operation on his foot and right shoulder, Marc Marquez was able to return to the track at Mugello, finishing fourth in qualifying and fifth in the Mugello Sprint.
Both in the qualifying lap – where he lost all the advantage in T3 – and in the Sprint – with a spectacular start that had put him in the lead –, Marquez showed flashes of his usual class. The Spaniard then had to give in to his physical condition and finished fifth, without putting up much fight against the rivals attacking him.
“There is reason to celebrate, but I am not satisfied”
Clearly, the fifth place in the Sprint is an excellent result, considering the context: “I am at a stage where there is reason to celebrate when you get into Q2, celebrate the second row and celebrate a top 5 finish. Obviously, these results do not satisfy me, but I have to be content and above all stay calm,” explained the Spaniard.
And precisely about staying calm, Marc Marquez emphasized in the interview with Dazn Spain: “Now I have to drive like this, because if I get heated up I only have to lose. I was attacked from all sides in the first lap, but that’s how it goes. When you don’t attack, you get attacked. But I decided to start calmly, I know I lose ground in direction changes. This circuit is not ideal for my physical condition.”
