Silverstone was definitely a not memorable Saturday for Marc Marquez. Already in qualifying, after setting the best time in the first attempt of Q2, he then finished only sixth. The Spaniard could have been third, but the displays signaling the yellow-red flag for a piece of Bezzecchi’s bike on the track misled him: when Marquez quickly looked up he saw only yellow and not the yellow-red sequence and therefore slowed down to avoid a penalty.

Starting sixth in the Sprint, he then recovered up to third place, before being surprised by a sharp drop in his rear Soft (with very high lap times). The Spaniard was overtaken by Fabio Di Giannantonio, Marco Bezzecchi, Alex Marquez, Pedro Acosta, Joan Mir, and Franco Morbidelli, finishing only ninth.

Not to miss anything, on the fourth lap Marquez’s airbag deployed: “I had a strong jolt with the rear tire and the airbag activated because I was practically already on the ground“, confessed the Spanish champion.
