According to British colleagues, the Japanese manufacturer has never been so close to returning to the top category of the World Endurance Championship. The final decision, which would target 2027, is expected to be made in the coming weeks: there is no official confirmation yet and plans – on the contrary – could change, but at the moment the Japanese seem intent on investing in WEC again.

The change in perspective on Endurance reportedly occurred with the 2024 merger between Honda Performance Development (Honda’s American racing department) and HRC to create HRC US. A move with which the Japanese brought together racing programs under the aegis of HRC. Two years later, the time seems ripe, also because Honda would already have a car compliant with LMDh technical regulations, the Acura ARX-06 which won the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona, the 2023 Petit Le Mans, and the 2024 12 Hours of Sebring. Furthermore, again according to The-Race, Honda could make use of the help of Inter Europol Competition, winner of LMP2 at Le Mans in 2023 and 2025 and IMSA class champion in 2024. As in IMSA, one car could be managed directly by HRC, a second by the partner team.
