A hope called ADUO
In every interview since the start of the season, the Ferrari drivers never miss the chance to emphasize how the SF-26 engine is the biggest limitation of Maranello’s project. In this sense, the Canadian Grand Prix could be an important turning point for the Scuderia, because right after Montreal the FIA will give the green light to updates through the ADUO – which also concern the power unit. So there could be an opportunity in a few races for Ferrari to make a significant step forward from a powertrain perspective.
…but Hamilton slows down
In the post-Qualifying statements from Canada, Lewis Hamilton made a speech implying that the gap to Mercedes on the engine side could be a constant throughout 2027: “The guys at the factory have done an extraordinary job with the car and we still have improvements to make. But the car is fantastic. From now on it will be a development battle throughout the season. We are simply at the mercy of the lack of power that we have. I know everyone has worked really hard on the power unit and reliability is obviously very good. But when you lack that straight-line speed compared to Mercedes it’s very, very tough… Anyway, we have to expect it will be like this for the rest of the season. We will simply try to see if we can continue to improve the car to try to close the gap. If we manage to be faster in corners in some races, maybe we can get closer to the challenge.”
Track engineer issue
Finally, Hamilton expressed appreciation for his current working group: “Honestly now my engineering team is exactly what I want. Finally, we have put the car in a place where I really feel myself this weekend. And I hope it continues like this, I don’t want to change anything”. So everything suggests that Carlo Santi will remain his track engineer for the rest of the championship.
