Lewis Hamilton did not hide that he had a good feeling with his Ferrari in Canada, but the limits of the SF-26 on the power unit side did not allow him to go beyond fifth place in qualifying, 290 thousandths behind the pole position of George Russell on Mercedes.
There is a bit of regret for the Englishman due to the last lap in qualifying, which could have brought him at least one row further forward, in which he had a technical problem with the activation of the Straight Mode (the active aerodynamics system, which is triggered by a button on the steering wheel).

Hamilton: “I lost one and a half/two tenths in Turn 1”
This is Lewis Hamilton’s account: “My first lap in Q3 went well. I did some really good preparation laps, then when I started my lap the Straight Mode was not active and I was already one and a half or two tenths behind in Turn 1. Then I had problems in Turn 7 because I was trying to push to the maximum. I think we could have fought for 3rd place, but it would have required a perfect lap. The positive thing is that we are improving and I really hope to be able to bring this kind of performance home for the rest of the year.”
