Goodwood | Valentino Rossi is back on the Yamaha M1 for the first time since retirement

After more than a decade Valentino Rossi made his grand return to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, riding the bike that made him a MotoGP legend: the Yamaha M1. The ‘Doctor’ rode the 2020 model – his last season with the official team – and climbed the famous Goodwood Hill alongside other Monster-sponsored athletes like Lando Norris, Steve Biagioni, Petter Solberg, John McGuinness, and Michael Dunlop.

It was a historic event in its own way, because Valentino Rossi had not ridden a Yamaha MotoGP since the 2021 Valencia GP, his last race in the premier class five years ago.
And images of the fluorescent yellow 46 on the blue bike quickly went viral on social media, shared by the festival’s official account.

Valentino’s emotion

“I am very happy and proud to be back at Goodwood, it’s been more than ten years since the last time I was here. It’s always a special event, a truly unique weekend. It’s impressive how much this event has grown, so it’s fantastic to be here for all the fans, and riding my M1 is always fantastic, so it’s great to be back on track. Yamaha has played a very important role in my life, so it’s always emotional when we meet again, and doing it with my 2020 YZR-M1 makes the occasion even more meaningful.”
