Unexplained fall, or almost
A Sunday closes with zero points, for the first time this season, for Fabio Di Giannantonio. The first slip of 2026 arrives at Sachsenring for the VR46 rider who made the first real mistake of his season in Germany. He crashed in turn 10 while he was in fifth position, on a track where yesterday in the Sprint he had shown all his speed and where today in the GP he could have had a say for a podium place, even if staying ahead of the two Aprilia Trackhouse riders who overtook him at the start would not have been easy.
At the Sky Sport MotoGP microphones, however, Di Giannantonio faced the today’s slip with his head held high, trying to explain in detail the reason for a fall that even he cannot fully understand: “At first glance at the data, the lap in which I fell is an identical copy of the previous lap: the point where I opened the throttle, the suspension and the speed. Maybe at that moment I was a bit closer to Ogura and maybe aerodynamics intervened, but these are things that are very difficult to understand. You would need a billion sensors. I take it as my mistake. Unfortunately, it had to come and it came. In the end, over the course of a season, it happens. Too bad, but it’s part of the game“.
The positive side
Di Giannantonio, who is now fifth in the World Championship, 24 points behind first place, wanted to emphasize the excellent work done so far by him and the entire Tavullia team: “We are doing our best and so far we can only be proud of what we are doing. The goal was to reach this condition, but one thing is to work on it and another is to really do it. In my opinion, we have had an excellent season so far. As I said, we made a mistake today, but there have been so many good days, so many great races that we have done that we must continue to work like this”.

“Obviously when you slide and make a mistake it stings – admitted the #49 of VR46 – because you say to yourself ‘damn, I shouldn’t have done that’. But we do 44 races and the format is always to stay on the limit. So it’s part of the game. The winner is the one who is the best, the fastest and who makes the fewest mistakes“.
