Donington 2026, Race 2: Ducati is mathematically World Constructors’ Champion

A weekend, two world championship successes

The celebration has begun in Donington for Ducati, which in the span of a single day achieved two great milestones: while the Ducati-Aruba.it team secured the team title at the end of the Superpole Race, the Borgo Panigale manufacturer was crowned world Constructors’ champion thanks to the results of Race 2. Nicolò Bulega’s victory, combined with teammate Iker Lecuona’s 2nd place and Yari Montella’s 3rd, created a sufficient gap from Bimota to pop the champagne with four races to spare, adding its 22nd world title (an absolute record) to its trophy cabinet, as well as the fifth consecutive.

Race report

Unlike Race 1 and today’s Superpole Race, Bulega this time maintained the lead at the start, followed by Montella and Alex Lowes. Starting from tenth on the grid, Lecuona gained three positions in the first two laps, during which Bulega meanwhile extended his lead over Montella and Lowes, who was ahead of his brother Sam. The battle between the two twins for the podium zone favored Lecuona’s recovery between the 4th and 5th laps, with the Spanish rider of the newly crowned world champion team closing in on the podium after first overtaking Bridewell (who was later forced to retire due to engine failure) and then Alex Lowes. A comeback into the top 3 concluded on the 7th lap, with the Race 1 winner virtually stepping onto the Donington podium ahead of Sam Lowes. Despite this, #7 pushed relentlessly to close the gap on Montella, managing a decisive overtake on the Barni team rider eight laps from the end, thus securing second place, which he defended until the finish. In this way, the Ducati riders’ triple podium, followed by Bimotas of Bassani and Alex Lowes, also ended the fight for the world Constructors’ title.

Next appointment

Like other two- and four-wheel championships, Superbike now enjoys a summer break. The riders will go on holiday for the rest of July and all of August, then return the weekend of September 4 to 6 for the French Round at the Magny-Cours circuit. This will also be the first of the last four rounds of the world championship.
