Martin at +14
Arriving as the world championship leader at Sachsenring, Jorge Martin started with a +7 lead over the second place and saw his advantage gradually grow to +11 after the Sprint and +14 after the Sunday race.
But it was an increase in the lead that was not so satisfying for Martin, as he was not brilliant on track at all and was able to extend his lead thanks to the injury that took his teammate Marco Bezzecchi out of the game.

Two positive notes from Martin’s fifth place finish, who finished 11″ behind the winner Marc Marquez: the 11 points brought home and managing to keep an aggressive Pecco Bagnaia behind him in the final stages of the race.
Also a bit of luck for Martin, who was able to benefit from the crashes of Di Giannantonio and Alex Marquez who were ahead of him.
Jorge is honest: “If I keep going like this…”
In the post-race interviews Martin did not hide all his dissatisfaction with the German weekend: “I’m happy to be leading the world championship, but if I keep racing like this, the lead won’t last long. I’m leading more because of others’ mistakes than my own merits. This was a solid and error-free weekend, but we are very far behind the leaders and the other Aprilias.”

Jorge Martin feels he has problems with feeling and set-up: “I realize I still need more experience on the Aprilia. At the start of the year it was less evident, but now I definitely need more. In a race without crashes I would have finished seventh.”
Final remark on a possible world title duel with Marc Marquez: “The challenge of beating the best rider in history is huge. Being able to fight with him until the end would be incredible.”
