Hyundai RN24, the WRC-inspired Rolling Lab

Hyundai RN24, unveiled at the N Day some time ago, is much more than a prototype: it is a statement of intent from Hyundai N. It is not a styling exercise, but a true next-generation Rolling Lab designed to push hardware and software technologies to the limit directly on the road, without compromises and without filters. The goal is to transform electric driving into an intense, precise, and viscerally satisfying experience, with the idea of making electric not only efficient but also engaging, responsive, and “sporty” in the deepest sense of the word.

RN24 fits into Hyundai N’s path as a concrete expression of the brand’s experimental approach. The Rolling Labs, in fact, are vehicles engineered with the same attention reserved for production models: they serve to collect real-time data, validate architectures, and accelerate the technology transfer towards production. In this context, the new RN24 inherits and relaunches the idea of laboratory cars that have redefined the concept of fun to drive also in the EV world, shifting the focus to connection with the road, dynamic coherence, and control.

Compact, light, radical: maximum power in the most compact package possible. The project stems from a simple but ambitious idea: to combine the most powerful 100% electric powertrain available today with a compact body, inspired by the proportions and philosophy of rally cars. Hyundai N integrates the 650 HP mechanics of the IONIQ 5 N into a compact EV chassis with a WRC footprint, thus enhancing agility and immediate response. The technical base is reinterpreted with a redesigned battery pack: the goal is to maintain 84 kWh while reducing the wheelbase by 340 mm, bringing RN24 closer to dimensions comparable to the B segment.

100% Electric Performance

RN24 combines a newly designed suspension platform derived from rally experience with high-rigidity subframes and sports shock absorbers, while the steering is tuned for quicker and more direct responsiveness, for a competition-like feeling. At the center is the control intelligence: RN24 adopts the WRC Powertrain Drive Control Logic, which allows intervention through steering wheel controls on power delivery, throttle sensitivity, regenerative braking, and thrust balancing. Rally Mode completes the picture by optimizing torque management and realistically simulating traction and response characteristics inspired by WRC. Enhancing the emotional component are the evolution of the N Active Sound+ system, the “rally” element of the e-Handbrake, and a structure that does not hide its function.
