The new goals at Opel
In ten years of career in Formula E, Mitch Evans has come close several times to winning the world title, but he was unable to achieve his goal especially behind the wheel of the Jaguar. As expected, the story between the New Zealand driver and the British team ended, but Evans’ desire to remain in Formula E stayed, and not in just any team. The 32-year-old has in fact officially signed a contract with Opel, a team that will make its debut in the electric category with the new GEN4 cars. The German manufacturer has confirmed the agreement reached with Evans for the 2026/2027 season, with the driver also completing its line-up. The new teammate will be the French Theo Pourchaire, making his championship debut but with some experience from the tests already carried out.

Not to participate, but to win
A team therefore built to immediately aim for the top positions in the standings, as confirmed by Jörg Schrott, Motorsport Director and Team Principal of Opel: “We have found our dream team. Mitch Evans was the ideal candidate for our Opel GSE Formula E team from the start. His commitment once again underlines the seriousness of the entire project. We have already met Mitch both on and off the track. Beyond his undisputed and extraordinary sporting record, he fits perfectly into our team also as a person. After many years with another manufacturer, he was looking for a new challenge. Now the Opel family and Mitch are taking this next step together. By doing so, we are sending a clear message: we are entering the World Championship to compete at the top“.

Evans is therefore about to open a new chapter of his career, and while waiting for the next season he reiterated all his enthusiasm: “I am proud to be an official Opel driver and to be part of this new chapter in Formula E. It is fantastic to finally be able to make this step official. After ten years with one manufacturer, it was time to face a new challenge. The switch to GEN4 cars represents the perfect moment to start something new. I immediately sensed how much energy and passion Opel is investing in the Formula E project. The team is not participating in the series just to compete: Opel is here to win, and that is exactly what I aspire to. The title clearly remains my main goal, in this sense I still have an unfinished business in Formula E. That is why the move to Opel seems like the right challenge to me. Starting a new generation of Formula E with a new team and achieving immediate success is by no means a given, but that is exactly what attracts me. I want to leverage my experience gained in ten years of Formula E and play a leading role in the World Championship together with Opel and Théo.”
