At the beginning of this month, Mercedes-AMG set a category lap record for the new electric CLA 45 at the Nurburgring. A record that allowed the Star brand to reaffirm a concept: electric cars can also be fun to drive. Also because Mercedes, and not only them, is committed to replicating some solutions found on combustion engine cars on their EV counterparts. An example? The new electric CLA 45 can simulate gear shifts and use a soundtrack to reproduce the sound of the old 2-liter turbo four-cylinder.

Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 electric, like a V8
In fact, according to Mercedes CEO Ola Kallenius, the system is capable of replicating even the sound of a V8. “When I first drove the CLA 45 with that system, I felt like a born-again Christian. It was the best V8 I had ever driven: it had all the sensations of a V8, but with more power and torque,” the manager told Autocar. Such an unprecedented element, since Mercedes-AMG did not mention the CLA 45’s ability to reproduce the sound of a V8 when presenting the model, instead only noting that it replicated a supercharged four-cylinder.
Mind-blowing performance
Among the other novelties found on board the electric CLA 45 are the new AMGForce Shaker. These are systems integrated into the front seats, designed to reproduce vibrations similar to those of a combustion engine car. And then there is the performance. In this regard, the new electric CLA 45 can reach 100 km/h in 3 seconds and accelerate up to 270 km/h with the AMG Dynamic Plus package. Thanks to the 94 kWh battery, it also boasts an impressive WLTP range of 670 km.
