Last March 22, the World Championship returned to hold a race valid for the Brazilian Grand Prix at the ‘Ayrton Senna’ circuit in Goiania, which had not hosted the championship since 1989. A completely green and gold celebration, ruined however by a factor that had consequences on the entire weekend: the asphalt. Due to the storms that had hit the region the week before the event, a dangerous pothole appeared on the starting straight on Saturday, which the riders did not pass over as it was fortunately in an off-line area. The need to intervene as soon as possible to solve the problem caused the inevitable delay of the Sprint race, but the real controversies exploded the following day.

In addition to the decision made by Race Direction to reduce the total number of scheduled laps (communicated, moreover, just a few minutes before the start) due to the asphalt crumbling in some parts of the track, several riders were hit by stones that broke off from the track during the race. In this way, even after the GP, the Goiania circuit was at the center of strong criticism, but during this week resurfacing work has begun to avoid the recurrence of similar episodes in the future.

The Government of Goias confirmed the regular progress of these interventions, which will last for a full 35 days after the first works began on April 6. Consequently, according to the plans, the circuit will reopen regularly around May 10.
