Volvo has started production of the new all-electric EX60, ready to be delivered to customers starting early summer. The 100% electric all-wheel drive mid-size SUV is born in the Torslanda plant, a few kilometers from the group’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. A milestone that is also part of an already outlined industrial strategy, with last month’s announcement of an increase in production volumes for 2026, motivated by strong demand recorded from the initial stages.

Volvo starts EX60 production
The EX60 is presented as the first electric car designed, developed and built entirely in Sweden, strengthening Volvo’s commitment to transform the Gothenburg area into a true hub for the development and production of high-end electric cars. The new model will contribute to supporting the local and national economy: thanks to ambitious sales projections, the new EX60 is destined to become one of the most relevant export products by value. In this context, the increase in production not only concerns the company, but also the role of western Sweden as a hub for growth and automotive production.
Orders exceeding estimates
The decision to push volumes in 2026 stems from orders much higher than expected in numerous European markets, with particular attention to Sweden and Germany, and from a consistent retail demand flow. Shortly, the order book for the USA and Asian markets will also open, scheduled for late spring. From a technical point of view, the EX60 aims to redefine expectations: range up to 810 km, 10-80% charging in 16 minutes and a price aligned with the XC60 plug-in hybrid, the best-selling model in the range. To prepare for production, the Torslanda plant has been upgraded with significant interventions, for a total investment of approximately 10 billion Swedish kronor.
