The Cadillac project
After numerous seasons that saw ten teams competing on track, 2026 celebrated the return to the starting grid of an eleventh entity like Cadillac, which in turn fielded two drivers like Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, absent in 2025. Among the projects of the American manufacturer, in addition to gradually increasing its level of competitiveness, is to debut with its own power units for the 2029 championship, with the team currently a Ferrari customer. A program that for the team CEO, Dan Towriss, seems to be able to materialize in time for that season.

Ahead of schedule
The manager confirmed the actual developments of the work being carried out by General Motors in a meeting with the media: “The project is ahead of schedule, actually – he explained – at the moment, we plan to make the Cadillac power unit operational to compete in 2029. There are also regulations under development for power units, so we are carefully monitoring the situation. But based on the current regulations, we are on track to have a power unit for 2029”.

General Motors, however, seriously risks investing millions of dollars for the creation of its power unit shortly before a change to the engine regulations planned for 2031. A project therefore destined to last only for two seasons, but in this regard, Towriss was very clear: “As I said, we are following the evolution of the regulations very carefully – he added – it is possible that the regulations will change before 2031, but it is also possible that they will not change before 2031. Regardless of funding, I believe it is important to see a Cadillac power unit as soon as possible. This is truly the main goal, from my point of view. If there are ways to speed up the timeline, we will do it. But at the moment, the goal remains 2029”.
