The key step is the overcoming of predefined voice commands: with Gemini the experience becomes more natural and intention-oriented, because the car is able to understand conversation in natural language, grasp the context and, consequently, respond more precisely to the driver’s needs. In practice, the AI does not just execute isolated instructions, but supports the driver throughout the journey, making the trip simpler and more enjoyable.

Volvo chooses Google Gemini
The initial rollout will begin in the United States, involving a first group of customers, then extending to the entire country and other markets in the following weeks. The first to try the new generation AI assistant will be drivers of Volvo models produced from 2020 onwards, creating a gradual path that will allow testing the experience and refining it over time. The goal is to bring AI directly inside the car, transforming the technology from an “additional feature” to a true travel ally.

Starting in the USA
But how does it work in practice? During planning, Gemini helps to get ideas and information about the destination in a conversational way, for example by suggesting ideas for a family vacation without requiring long hours of flight and then allowing further exploration with additional questions. On the road, it can support the search for the perfect stop integrating Google Maps, such as requests like finding “croissants along the route” and evaluating options through reviews and parking ease. Also, to stay always updated, Gemini can handle complex messages (even in different languages), quickly update a plan in case of schedule changes, and even help create the ideal atmosphere by playing content “based on mood” and listening preferences.
