Volkswagen ID Polo, one step away from debut

The Volkswagen ID Polo will be presented tomorrow as an electric hatchback with a price below approximately 26.600 euros. The model ushers in a new era for the German brand, focusing on a more accessible offering and a refreshed design language. After the restyling of the ID 3 Neo, the ID Polo is the first completely new model to adopt Volkswagen’s new design language under the guidance of Andreas Mindt.

Volkswagen ID Polo is coming

The car was previewed in 2023 by the ID 2all concept car. The production model closely resembles it, as suggested by the sketches published by Mindt on LinkedIn. The aesthetic choice of the interior also reflects the same approach: what was revealed last month indeed recalls the concept. The design idea, defined as “premium haptic”, combines touchscreens and physical controls. In this sense, the interior offers a configuration based on a 10.25″ digital display and a 13″ horizontal infotainment touchscreen.

Confidence in physical controls

Instead of the controversial sliders for volume and climate, a series of physical controls dedicated to heating, air conditioning, and emergency lights appear below the screen. Also present is a rotary knob to adjust the volume and quickly change tracks or stations. The renewed steering wheel houses physical buttons for driver assistance systems and for infotainment and other displays. Furthermore, Volkswagen focuses on perceived quality, with fabric-covered panels, visible stitching, and palettes inspired by “shades of the sea”, using fabrics made from thermoplastic obtained from recycled plastic bottles.

Among the features are customizable screens, including a retro mode inspired by the Golf Mk1, and an updated infotainment system with a navigation platform compatible with both the Volkswagen system and Google Maps. The ID Polo declares almost identical dimensions to the internal combustion version, but with a more spacious cabin thanks to the flat electric platform and the main mechanical components positioned at the front. The trunk will be 435 liters.
