After more than a month-long break due to the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian GPs, Formula 1 will finally return to the track this weekend for the first of three scheduled events in the United States. The venue will be the street circuit of Miami, which will also host the second Sprint race of this championship after the one held in Shanghai. A weekend that will bring numerous novelties, beyond the individual updates that the teams will bring.

In Florida, in fact, new technical regulations approved on April 20 following the meeting between FIA, team principals, engine CEOs, and FOM will debut, in addition to the extension from 60 to 90 minutes of the single free practice session scheduled for Friday before the Sprint qualifying and Formula 2 qualifying, a category present for the first time in North America. Speaking of the United States, the event will have a special flavor for Haas, which will compete in its home GP.
Other ‘lessons’ on track
Fourth in the Constructors’ standings with a two-point lead over Red Bull and Alpine, the team will try to bounce back in front of its home crowd a month after Suzuka, where controversies arose over the incident involving Oliver Bearman, who violently crashed into the barriers after avoiding Colapinto’s car at the last moment: “I’m really excited to get back racing, it’s been a long break and Miami is a fun track – commented the Englishman – we have a Sprint weekend which is still a big challenge for us with these new regulations. We are learning new things every session, so I’m looking forward to going and exploring the nuances and challenges of Miami. I hope we can continue this good start to the season and that everyone will be refreshed and ready to give their best”.

Teammate Esteban Ocon is also motivated, 10th in Japan but aware that climatic and track conditions could hold surprises: “Miami is probably the first race this year that will take place in high heat and humidity conditions, so it’s an aspect that we haven’t quite figured out with the new cars yet. Obviously, being a Sprint race, it will be necessary to learn quickly. We have worked a lot in the simulator to try and optimize the setup, but there are things that can be discovered in FP1 if you manage to have a smooth session, so that will be our goal. The car has performed quite well in the first two events, so we are aiming for a good weekend and, hopefully, to score some points for the team”.
