The live broadcast kept pace, the delayed broadcast did not
Compared to the 2025 edition and previous ones, the timing of the Canadian GP in 2026 was definitely less fortunate. 12 months ago, the live race on Sky started at 8:00 PM, with a delayed broadcast on TV8 at 9:30 PM in prime time. This year, however, the GP started at 10:00 PM and the delayed broadcast consequently shifted to 11:30 PM.

The TV ratings still held up despite the late evening slot. In 2025, the live broadcast on Sky recorded 1,100,000 viewers, a figure even surpassed by this year’s 1,119,000. The delayed broadcast on TV8, however, for obvious reasons lost quite a few viewers, dropping from 1,280,000 to 798,000, almost half a million less.

The total is just under two million in 2026 – 1,917,000 – compared to 2,380,000 in 2025, a deficit entirely attributable to the delayed broadcast since the live broadcast actually did slightly better than 12 months ago.
