The double operation

In front of journalists after the bad fall at Le Mans, Marc Marquez revealed that he would not only undergo the surgery for the fracture of the fifth metatarsal of the right foot, but also – surprisingly – an operation to remove a screw from the right shoulder.
Not just any screw, but that ‘famous’ bent screw that was the subject of a mystery last November.

To the Spaniards of Dazn Spain, Marc Marquez had clarified that the operation on the right shoulder would have to come anyway, since it had been scheduled after the Barcelona GP on May 17, so much so that the nine-time world champion would have also missed the test scheduled on the Catalan track on May 18.

Marquez’s words

“One of the reasons I was so calm this week was because I knew a fall could come at any moment. There was already a scheduled operation after Catalonia for the right shoulder. After Jerez I realized something was wrong, I thought I had a mental block. Instead, the doctors discovered that the screw was touching my radial nerve and this was causing me to make mistakes, making me inconsistent and causing unexpected falls.

Recovery times should be short, if there are no complications. The intention was to operate after Montmeló, skip the tests and have the surgery. Now, due to the foot situation, we will do everything in one go. Obviously, racing like this is not ideal, when there is a nerve problem, you give in when you least expect it. That trouble manifested itself precisely in the MotoGP position, for example not in motocross. The bike is fine, that’s why I kept insisting that I was the problem. But I didn’t want to give explanations, in Jerez I tried to understand if it was not a psychological block, but I realized it wasn’t. Simply I’m not someone who goes crying in front of you journalists, I do it with my loved ones.”
