The Return of the Shark
After the dry spell in Jerez, Pedro Acosta returned today to score points in a Sprint. In Le Mans, the Spanish KTM rider was fourth at the finish line, once again elevating with his sheer talent a bike that certainly seems quite far from the performances of Aprilia and Ducati. Interviewed by Sky Sport at the end of the Sprint, the Murcian ‘Shark’ also suggested that – without mistakes at the start – he could have challenged Bezzecchi for the bronze medal.
“Yes, I think I missed making a good start to really be in the fight for the podium, because then I lost a lot of time overtaking Mir and Marquez. But I think we had a good Sprint today and I believe there was even more potential,” Acosta noted.
The standings are not the focus
Despite the third position gained in the championship, with a one-point lead over Fabio Di Giannantonio who fell today, Acosta does not want to focus on the world standings: “Better rain tomorrow to try to recover points? No, in the end we must not think about the championship – commented the young Spanish talent – there are five very strong Ducatis and also the four Aprilias that are fast, so we must continue to improve our bike and hope that tomorrow’s race is dry to try to improve further“.
“Pecco among the favorites tomorrow? Yes, in FP2 Pecco and also Bez really showed they have a strong pace. We have to try to manage the rear tire a bit better – Acosta concluded – I don’t know why today we struggled more compared to Friday, but I think [tomorrow] we have to do a race similar to today’s“.
