Sales results in North America confirm that Stellantis’ strategy is bearing fruit. In a letter to US employees, CEO Antonio Filosa highlighted the recovery of recent months in a challenging market and announced that he will present the new industrial plan during Investor Day on May 21 in Detroit. Filosa recalled the importance of the new models arriving, including the renewed Chrysler Pacifica, Jeep Recon, Ram 1500 SRT TRX and Ram Power Wagon Diesel. And he defined them as key tools to regain market share, “offering products that our customers want and appreciate.”

Stellantis and the strategy for North America
The first quarter closed positively across the region, with growing performance in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The numbers cited by the CEO are good: in the USA the group recorded sales growth of 4% year-on-year, gaining 78 basis points of market share and positioning itself among the fastest-growing automakers in the country. In Canada sales increased by 15% and in Mexico by 19% compared to the same period of the previous year. Filosa emphasizes the three priorities of the group: increasing sales, improving industrial execution and enhancing profitability.

Leapmotor agreement in Canada?
But he warns that the work is not finished: “We are only beginning to see what we are capable of achieving.” Meanwhile, on the electric mobility front Bloomberg reports that Stellantis is reportedly evaluating possible options with Chinese partner Leapmotor for the production of 100% electric vehicles in Canada. Talks are still at an early stage, but if they were to materialize it would be the first major Chinese automotive investment in Canada after the agreement between Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Xi Jinping for the reduction of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. The project hypothesis involves using an idle assembly plant in Brampton, Ontario, near Toronto.
