During the days of the Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympics, the call to not give up found an even stronger echo. The spirit of those who compete, get back up, and try again has inspired concrete initiatives to transform not giving up into real paths of autonomy related to cars and driving. The association “La nostra famiglia” organized an event at the Pieve di Soligo Mobility Center, Treviso, part of the network of 15 reference points of Stellantis Autonomy. The goal is to promote tools, assessments, and opportunities for those who wish to return to driving after a trauma, illness, or a long absence.

Stellantis close to people with disabilities
The Mobility Center offers a complete path: medical and psychological assessments, study of aids and vehicle adaptations, psychophysical rehabilitation paths in collaboration with Irccs Eugenio Medea, and targeted programs for approaching or returning to driving. It is not just about recovering motor skills: often the biggest barrier is mental, the tendency towards excessive defense, the fear of not making it or of encountering new traumatic events. The stories of Paralympic athletes show that these limits can be progressively overcome: day after day, with small steps and the right support. Technology also plays a fundamental role, providing tools that allow for safe experimentation and the rebuilding of confidence.

Pieve di Soligo Mobility Center
The driving simulator represents the first step of this journey: it allows for testing accessories and adaptations for clutch and movement, tackling straights, curves, and maneuvers without risks, a process in which making mistakes is part of learning and regaining courage. Experts accompany with instructions and strategies for conscious “defensive” driving, designed to limit risks in daily life. Then comes real practice: first on the track with an instructor and supports, and finally on the road, when the user is ready. It is a path that combines rehabilitation, technology, and personal motivation.
