Stellantis announces the launch of the innovative E-car project, dedicated to creating a compact electric car that is finally economically accessible. The goal is to bring the first units from the production lines to the market in 2028, with a project designed to meet the needs of urban mobility and to concretely contribute to the transition to 100% electric. The “E” in E-car embodies the values of the plan: European, Emotion, Electric, and Eco-sustainable, in line with an industrial and environmental strategy aimed at strengthening the link between innovation and territory.
New Stellantis electric car
The E-car segment is presented as high potential, capable of supporting employment and skills in the design and production sector, also thanks to recognition from the European Commission. At the same time, the project aims to counteract the contraction of the small affordable car market in Europe, becoming an opportunity to make the choice of electric mobility easier in everyday life. A compact vehicle, designed for real and frequent use, can indeed break down economic and cultural barriers, promoting a wider diffusion of BEVs and a more comfortable and eco-sustainable way to move around cities.
Production in Pomigliano
Antonio Filosa, CEO of Stellantis, emphasizes the strategic nature of the initiative: “The E-Car represents a concept deeply rooted in Stellantis’ European DNA”. Production start, according to the announcement, will take place at the Pomigliano plant, with the project aiming to enhance the tradition of the historic site in producing iconic and accessible models, including the famous Fiat Panda. The E-car will be developed within the framework of “mobility for all,” with a distinctive design and world-class BEV technologies, thanks to collaborations with selected partners to ensure greater economic accessibility and reduce development times, accelerating time-to-market.
