The Turk won the Yamaha trophy
The manager of Toprak Razgatlioglu Kenan Sofuoglu had emphasized on the eve of 2026 that in terms of ambition, the most significant goal for the Turkish rider to potentially achieve would be to be the best Yamaha rider, a goal that therefore includes beating 2021 world champion Fabio Quartararo.
In the United States Razgatlioglu succeeded. The Pramac rider finished in 15th position, obtaining his first career point in MotoGP and winning the ‘Yamaha trophy’ ahead of Jack Miller, Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins.
Razgatlioglu dueled for a long time with Fabio Quartararo before the latter experienced a significant drop in tire performance, perhaps attributable to experiments carried out in an attempt to find performance. “I don’t know how Fabio managed to brake so hard at Turn-12 at the end of the long straight; every time I tried, my front wheel would lock up,” said Razgatlioglu. Quartararo complimented his fellow brand rider: “I was really impressed by his performance – the words of El Diablo reported by the website crash.net – in the last 5 laps I collapsed in terms of tires, while he remained constant. He drives smoothly, he is maintaining the style he had in Superbike and he had already been very fast in the warm-up.”
